When I VPN, my live messenger cuts off

When I remote into my office, my live messenger cuts off or won't come on at
all, until I cut of the VPN.

How can this be fixed so that I can use both?

You will have to configure a proxy on the VPN (you probably already do this
if you use the internet while connected to the VPN), and then tell Live
Messenger to use that proxy by providing your username and password that you
use for the proxy.

The Live Messenger proxy configuration is in:
Tools --> Options --> Connection --> Advanced Settings

Nonetheless even after you do that, when you connect to the proxy, your Live
Messenger will still cut. You will have to reconnect once your VPN is going.

Greetings,

As your gateway changes when you logon to the VPN, and more than likely they have blocked
Messenger in your office network, this won't work.

You may be able to forgo changing the gateway (it's an option in the VPN settings), if you're
just accessing some office resources and don't necessary need to be completely plugged into
the network. It really depends on what you're doing.
