You will have to configure a proxy on the VPN (you probably already do this
if you use the internet while connected to the VPN), and then tell Live
Messenger to use that proxy by providing your username and password that you
use for the proxy.
The Live Messenger proxy configuration is in:
Tools --> Options --> Connection --> Advanced Settings
Nonetheless even after you do that, when you connect to the proxy, your Live
Messenger will still cut. You will have to reconnect once your VPN is going.
