All Vista MC Word doc have the following, MS office word document(.docx) as
the file type. When I send to a web site that requires MS word format it is
rejected. When I send a doc via email, the addressee can not open. Is there
a fix and does the x have something to do with it?

Yeah. .docx is the new XML 2007 format. Save in the old .doc format for
file exchanging.

Hello buntley,

That is the new Open xml format that MS uses since Office 2007. But you still
can save the document as an older version if you use save as Word 97-2003
Document.

You can also make the default format 97-2003 by clicking on
the Office button and at the bottom click on Options then
select save and pick the file type you want as default.

No, not correct. It has nothing to do with Vista. It's Word 2007 that
produces the .docx format by default.

It's not the "x" itself, but it's the format the .docx file, as opposed to
..doc, is in. Yes, there are three ways to fix it (although you can
personally only use the last one):

1. The web site can switch to Word 2007 (or the full Office 2007 suite)

2. The web site can install the free Microsoft patch to their old version
that lets them read .docs files.

3. You can save file the file in the old .doc format before sending it to
them. Just use Save As instead of Save, and choose .doc.

The web site is behind the times and should use solution 1, or at least 2,
so they are compatible with everyone, but in the meantime you can use
solution 3.
