wallpaper sizing

is there a setting somewhere where i can get the wallpaper to stay at the
actual size rather than expanding when centered? i'm not talking about fit
to screen. when i click on center, the picture expands enough to fit from
top to bottom of the screen. what if i want it to have spce on all sides?

Are you sure that the picture is expanding ?
Could it be that the picture you are using is larger in pixels than the
screen resolution you have set ?
What are those pixel values ?
Try a smaller picture with the right hand positioning button selected.
With over large pictures that button has the same effect as the left
hand button.

When looking for wallpaper, you may have noticed that it is supplied in a
variety of resolutions in many cases. Download the wallpaper with a lower
resolution but same aspect ratio.

I'm sitting at my XP machine, my Vista machine is out of reach, so I'm
somewhat guessing. When I right-click my desktop background, bring up
the "Display Properties" dialog, and Click the "Desktop" tab, there is
a dropdown on the right side that governs how the selected image will
be used. There are three options: Center, Tile, and Stretch. "Center"
is the one you're looking for, it just plunks the image in the center
of the screen and doesn't mess with its size. I know Vista has things
arranged a bit differently, but there must be something similar to
this setting.

Also: I assume that you're certain that this image is actually small
enough that it would have space on all sides when centered on your
monitor? Could it be that you need to shrink it?
