I've running xp pro with all the service packs and updates installed., but i
need to format my computer and reinstall windows. is there a place where the
updates downloaded itself to where I can just back up and reinstall after
reformatting ... having to download all of them again with dial-up is a drag.
especially sp2.

thanks

the updates are loaded to a temp folder which disappears after rebooting...

however I believe you can order the updates on a CD from Microsoft

BTW...why do you have to reinstall Windows...maybe your situation is
repairable?

You may need to do a repair install. That said, if the MB is the same,
with the same BIOS, you may not have to do anything. The CPU won't
affect it at all.

Thanks Alias.

unfortunately for me, I can't 'order' the updates on CD. at least I couldn't
find it anyway. There's an ISO image of all updates that's over 400mg to
download.
so yay ... hehehe.

thanks guys.

If you do a repair install, don't you still have to get all the updates
again? I thought I had seen this mentioned somewhere before.

Yeah, you do, about 70 of them :-) I would say it's about time for SP3.

I agree, but I doubt there will be an SP3. MS wants you to
buy Vista, Intel wants you to dump your old PC.
