I want to use Application Sharing and Whiteboard.

Hi,
I now have Windows Live Messenger 8.0, and would dearly love to use
Application Sharing but I just can't seem to get it to work with the people
I try (we were trying with Windows Messenger 4.7, but can't get it to work
with WLM either) We read about opening some of the ports and tried and that
still didn't work - we couldn't figure it out because there is no
notification of who is actually blocking or not able to connect.

Please someone who has this feature working please help me set mine up
so I know that my end of the connection is working. I believe the
whiteboard uses the same setup routines as application sharing so if that
works then application sharring should work to (if that is a concern). I
would like to see it working at least once.

Thanks for any help.

Greetings Craig,

Windows Live Messenger uses the same thing as Windows Messenger does, it's exactly the same
component and connectivity is identical.

In order for it to work, "opening ports" isn't good enough; any NATs/routers being used will
need to support Universal Plug and Play (UPnP). You can check your UPnP status in WLM by
clicking the Tools menu (or pressing Alt-T), then Options, then Connection category and wait
a few seconds for the information to be displayed.

Yes we have that I have checked it out - the one in the office is a Lynksys
BEFSR41 - the one I have at home also is supported it but could possibly out
of date, but I really don't think so.

Thanks for reiterating that but I really need someone to help me make sure I
can connect to another computer.

I says I have a non-UPnP IP restricted NAT. How do I make it a UPnP IP so I
can use application sharing?

Thanks,

SAm
