Rich,
Was there another page to that discussion?

It seems it just died when she went to chop some trees... <eg>
Here are some more current threads:
http://groups-beta.google.com/groups...t=0&scoring=d&
(Google Groups search for
80072f0d OR 0x80072f0d MSFT OR MVP group:microsoft.*
- sorted by date to capture current thinking
)
Hits are mostly from other newsgroups but there seems to be
a clear pattern from them that the code has something to do with
certificates or encryption.
In fact a web search using the decimal equivalent of that (signed)
hex value finds:
http://perso.wanadoo.fr/doc.jm/WU5-ERR.htm
<quote>
0x80072F0D -2147012851 ERROR INTERNET INVALID CA
</quote>
(Google web search for
80072f0d OR 0x80072f0d OR "-2147012851"
)
So although there are no hits like that with a web search
at site:microsoft.com now we can see what there is
about certificates and encryption for Windows Update specifically.
Use the KB's Advanced search to pick the product
and do the search:
http://support.microsoft.com/search/...2&ast=3&mode=a
(MSKB Boolean search of
Product: Windows Update
For: (encryption OR certificates)
)
Here is the top hit:
<title>You cannot install some updates or programs</title>
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;822798
