These error messages indicate your Windows Update *services* are NOT
running; They're disabled as the error message indicates.
Try this;
Go to:
Control Panel
Administrative Tools
Services
And check that Automatic Updates is enabled, started, and on automatic.
If it isn't double click on it and start it, and set it to automatic so that
it starts automatically each time you start your computer.
For the BITS service you can safely set it to manual, and allow XP to start
it only when it's needed. It doesn't need to be running all the time.
For your Events Log service start that and set it to automatic also. This
service and the events log is very handy for keeping an eye on how your
computer is running...
Then try going to the the WU website again...
To have easy access to your events logs, try enabling it on your start menu:
Start Button
right click
Properties
Start Menu
Customise
Advanced
scroll to System Administration Tools
select Display on All Programs Menu and Start Menu.
click OK
To access the events logs, on the Start Menu select Administratve Tools,
Event Viewer
There you will have an Applications log, a Security Log, and a System Log.
All three logs show various system events and error messages, and provide
links to Help and Support (when you double click on an event) to fix any
errors....
You will need to be online to use this help and support function as it links
to Microsoft help and support wesites.
