We've had nothing but trouble with SP2. The number of
failures range from inability to complete installation due
to mysterious inability to write files to lost network
connectivity. In every case we ended up having to re-
install the entire OS.

Heed my warning!

Avoid SP2, it's not ready for release.

John.

You don't have a clue.

A recent survey said less than 10% of the systems worldwide were having
problems with SP2.

Don't assume your situation applies to everyone else.

I've been running it for weeks with no problems.

I am sorry but for what we pay in license fees being in this nominal 10% is
totally commercially unacceptable - if 10% of cars or airlanes crashed all
hell would breal loose.
I concur stay away from SP2 until it installs cleanly - for instance I have
it on 2 PCs at the moment - winver shows Version 5.1 (Build 2600.xpsp_sp2_rtm
etc) , installation History shows that Windows Xp Service Pack with a status
of Cancelled - even though the install finished aok and asked to be rebooted
etc etc.

M$ makes too much money to put out incompetent code

Jerry;
If SP-2 is unacceptable for you now, you will stay away from SP-2
forever.
The SP-2 of today is the same as SP-2 will be next year with
absolutely no changes.
Unless you mean SP-3 in a year or two.
Do not wait for changes to SP-2 unless you plan on waiting forever.
You should research your computer for possible issues.

Is all your software and hardware compatible with SP-2:

Was your computer ready for SP-2:

I cannot run scripts cause they are dangerous even though I
wrote them.
Cannot play mp3s in WMP that I recorded with my guitar
without being asked for a license.
The "Where do you want to go today" line seems to be
gradually changing into "This is where you will go today"
If when coding a web page I find it easier to change to
another OS than spend two hours finding out that JavaScript
is blocked locally what chance do people with limited
technical knowlege have.

"You should research your computer for possible issues"

If it ain't broke, don't fix it.

Especially on the advice of a Microsoft groupie.

There really is no "there" there with reference to sp2.

It's just a lot of stuff already on the market, and possibly on your
machine, except for the fact that, the existing stuff works.

Don't let anyone tell you different.
They're full of crap.

"If it ain't broke, don't fix it"
How do you know it is not broke?
I don't and you certainly don't know about this specific computer.
However I gave specific suggestions, you gave...vague generalities..

"Especially on the advice of a Microsoft groupie."
That statement shows you are insecure in your own point of view.
You feel a need to insult to prop up your position.
Perhaps you need to learn some facts and use them instead of throwing
insults.

"There really is no "there" there with reference to sp2."
Seems to make absolutely no sense.
This actually fits with the rest of your post.

SP-2 works very well.
Perhaps you should actually look at it instead of just reading and
adding your own vague ideas?

Hey,

wow, Jerry is a tool eh? I have 4 computers in my house running WinXP and
have SP1 and everything updatable leading to SP2...now, only 2 computers took
the update, the other 2..well, didn't. And now they (the 2 comp.s that didnt
take it) come up with errors and their taskbars don't function
correctly...yippy. The two that couldnt take it can run Javascript without
error, actually they run beautifully. The two that updated are now
completely useless. www.weather.com is required for ppl in my company for
flight purposes, but then you can't even look at there webpage, then
everything is useless...makes you want to go out and sue the SOB who released
this piece of garbage onto the net...loss of productivity hours, time spent
resolving issues that they should have dealt with themselves, improperly
fuctioning OS...It's times like this when you know that OS's like Linux will
always be around...they dont release garbage that OVER protects your system
from that badass hacker and in turn makes your crap inoperable
(hmmm...software that makes your system inoperable or not proper...SOUNDS
LIKE A VIRUS TO ME!!!)...lemme tell you something, I have seen less hacker
crap lately then ever, good thing I have to have SP2 so I cant view
weather.com, some1 might have hacked it and then my computer is at risk!
Gimme a fuggin' break...

The point to this message is when a business can no longer run bc the OS on
it's system won't allow it (or is just broken from a garbage update) then why
the hell release it? ...Oh, btw, my Firewall has javascript enabled, as does
my Iexplorer, I checked my registry and thats all good too...The only thing
micrsoft says will fix it now is to either PAY THEM MONEY for the hotfix (you
fuggin' SOB's), reintstall your OS (YAY, I always wanted to update my
operating system to the point that I would have to reinstall it again just to
use it properly), or reinstall IE (gimme a break). With that said, I am
never going to use another microsoft product again. This whole experience is
complete and utter crap. Linux forever motherf*ckers...oh, and apple too.
Just remember, software that makes your system not work properly is known as
a virus...maybe Norton has an update that helps protect you from SP2???

Peace in your boti crease,

Loopy

There is much questionable information in your post but the most
obvious is "PAY THEM MONEY for the hotfix".
If you are being asked to pay for a hotfix, it is not from Microsoft.
There are unscrupulous people that are selling what Microsoft gives
for free.
I suggest you get a qualified technician to help with your problems
because they go beyond SP-2.

SP-2 works very well on the computers I have it installed.
