I bought a WD My Book and Acronis software and backed up my hard drive.

I now have some questions regarding WD HOME and tried to submit them to
their support e-mail. Their support would not accept the questions because
I don't know my RMA number.

My questions are:

I only want to use WD with my Acronis software. How do I turn it off when
not in use. The button in the back of it only seems to change the light
display pattern in the front of it

When I boot up, WD loads up and displays their backup program. I'd like to
stop that.

Also, their icon in the quick launch toolbar tells me that WD is assisting
other apps in resources. How do I stop that.

Any assistance much appreciated.

You need to visit the WD My Book site and view their FAQ's
An RMA number is one issued usually when you are returning an item under
warranty.

Using the safely remove icon in the task bar will allow you to disconnect
the usb connection or sata connection, Then simply switch off/disconnect the
pwr to the My Book

I have a WD here. Just unplugging it from the USB channel turns it
off.

Check to see if that is listed in MSCONFIG. Uncheck it if it is,
otherwise I would just delete everything on the drive other than your
Acronis backups (ending in .tib). I've had mine so long, I don't
recall if it came with pre-loaded software or not. I think I
formatted it and split it into two partitions without looking anyway.

Don't know.

BTW... check to see if it's formatted NTFS. If it isn't, your Acronis
images are going to be split into 4G parts.

It is preinstalled with software, but I too formatted mine into two
partitions as well, and use Acronis.

And you don't get any auto-starting of the WD backup software, right?
