I know I have done this before but I guess I apparently have forgotten
how to do it again. I am trying to create a desktop short cut to a web
site such that the shortcut retains the website icon. I can make a short
cut to the url but when I do it comes up with the Internet Explorer Icon
instead of the icon of the web site. I want to say that when I did it
before all I did was drag and drop something and clicked create
shortcut. I just can't remember where or what I drug and dropped. Any
ideas? Thanks,

Goto your temp internet files folder, probably
C:\Users\UserName\AppData\Local\Microsoft\Windows\ Temporary Internet Files
and look for the files named 'favicon.ico'
drag one onto your desktop, rename it something that reflects what it is
Now make a folder somewhere, anywhere you like really
put your renamed icons in there.
Now goto your internet shortcut, right click > properties > change icon,
browse to your new icons folder and choose the icon you wish to see, click
on it then press OK, OK
done.

Ok, Thanks all for your help. One of the issues was that I was in medium
icons instead of classic icons and with that resolution it would not
keep the url icon but rather default to the Internet Explorer Icon.
Thanks again.
