webcam closes messenger

im using a philips spc520nc all drivers are up to date
when i view webcam setting on windows live messenger 8.5 it works fine
as soon as im trying to connect over WLM
it freezes WLM and i have to use task manager to close it.
i have used this webcam before for a long period of time, its just suddenly
stopped working.
how do i fix this?
ive tried almost everything.
im running windows vista, could this be the problem?

Bingo, Emma, bingo. If you upgraded to get Vista, find the format disk and
insert it into your computer...

I don't have a specific solution for you, but other people with philips cameras have reported
this before so you're certainly not alone.
