Greetings Wim,

There was a new version of Messenger released on Friday, which supposedly should have some
fixes for these webcam issues. You both should upgrade to the latest version to see if that
helps at all:
http://download.live.com

Also, what happens when you go through the Audio and video setup wizard? You can get to that
by opening any Messenger window, pressing the Alt key on the keyboard, and choosing Audio and
video setup (not sure what the wording is in Dutch, sorry).

Ik have installed teh versio of Windows Live Messenger, version 2009, build
14.0.8064.206. I installed it this weekend so that can't be the problem.

When I go through te setting of my audio and webcam its all going ok. I see
myself in the screen and hear myslef on the audio. Thats why this is so
strange to me. Everything is going as it should but still the problems when I
start en videoconference.

And more. I can't select the option to start only my own webcam wiothout
audio. That option is not activated.

I hope you can help me with this

greetzzz

Hi Wim,

The "tester" in the wizard is actually separate from the actual video feature in Messenger,
so that's why it's not always a good determiner.

Also, what video capabilities are going to take place are dependent on what client your
contact is using. Do you happen to know what version of Messenger they're using as well?

One thing you could try is to use a Virtual Webcam, which can connect up to your existing
webcam and works through it (you can also get some different effects by doing this). One
free example is ManyCam (www.manycam.com).

Jonathan,

The point is that the latest version of Live Messenger broke Video calls for
many people. There is a blog-post for this issue saying that it is a problem
caused by McAfee software and there is a solution for it. Most people that
experience this problem are not using any McAfee software though.

See this post:
http://windowslivewire.spaces.live.c...ry?_c=BlogPart

I reverted back to version 8.x (not sure which version) and got my cam back
to work.

I'm having the same problem. Additionally, I no longer have the option to
start my webcam WITHOUT voice (i.e., just video) after installing build
14.0.8064.206 yesterday! This is NOT a McAfee problem because I don't have
McAfee installed. Everything worked perfectly before the new WLM9 install.

OS: Vista Home Premium SP1
Webcam: Logitech QuickCam Pro for Notebooks
Webcam: Logitech QuickCam Pro 5000
AntiVirus: Norton Internet Security 2009

My variation of this problem is that when I click on videocall...The person
with which I am speaking sees me and sees himself...I can see them but I
cannot see myself! It's very annoying as you cannot see where you are
centered in the cam, if the lighting is good etc. I use it for teaching
(foreign language) and when I want to show various items I am not sure where
or how close to show the item. The variations of these webcam malfunctions go
on and on! It's a shame Microsoft can't make something that functions
without such problems. My non techie solution is to use a chat program that
has their act together like GOOGLE or SKYPE...always reliable...without all
the little overbearing bells and whistles of Windows Live!
