Does Windows Vista have any built-in webcam support?

Drivers?
Monitoring Software?

I have a webcam but i'm reluctant to install software that is not
essential - the software that came with it is too crappy but i can't find
any Microsoft webcam software in Windows Vista ( Premium) - i was a bit
suprised that Win Movie Maker doesn't support webcam input

Have you tried hooking up the web cam and then just see what Vista does about it?

Nope, that is the responsibility of the hardware developer to provide with
their product. Products such as Windows Live Messenger or Yahoo Messenger
include web cam support, but no drivers.

I might be wrong, but I think you once mentioned you have Roxio
software. If so, that may have what you need. I have Roxio Creator Basic
v9. When you start that, under Home there's Applications. When you click
that, it lists "Media Import" under the "utilities". Media Import can
record from a webcam (assuming of course that the webcam *driver* is
already installed, mine just uses a Microsoft provided driver). If you
want, you can view the recorded video with WMP (or with Media Import
itself).

I hope this helps.

Kinda dumb for a 'new' OS that has everything but the kitchen sink.
can plug a web cam in, Vista says 'Oh EZCAM III' and loads the driver
Yet I cant do anything with the camera. Plug a microphone into the soun
card, open up sound recorder and record sounds to my delight, no driver
nothing extra to make windows sound recorder 'more' compatible with m
sound card. So why did the engineers not think to add a way to captur
images from a web cam. How hard could it be? Seems like w95, w98 and X
used a file called AMCap to provide a means of recording webcams. Wha
happened to it in Vista? Lets provide a multimedia experience but the
overlooked the webcam. Tsk tsk

you might want to experiment with other third party video
recorder capture programs. Some disc burn software adds
the video editor in their suite. Check with the manufacturer
of the cam for custom drivers to enable use of video
editors/compositors with your cameras.

For whatever reasons, Vista must not want to record from web cams. Even
loading the Ezonics software that came with the cam, I can get a display
picture, I can take still frames with the camera, when I try to record,
I get a message saying I don't have a recording device.

Doesn't MovieMaker accept input from a webcam?

Where are you telling the software to record the video?
