I use Windows Vista Home Premium and Int. Explorer 8.

When I sign into my ISP I get the following message: “The webpage you
requested is not available off line.”

How can I eliminate this message?

Thanks,
Jerry

File menu - uncheck Work Offline

It's near the bottom of the menu.

Jill or Nil –
First the option to uncheck, Work Offline, is located in my Tools menu. It
has an X in its box. I contacted my ISP (AOL) and they said I had a browser
problem. They told me to do the following steps:

Please click the START button, select PROGRAMS or ALL PROGRAMS, then click
INTERNET EXPLORER. When the internet explorer was launch, on the menu bar,
Click the TOOLS menu located on the upper right corner of the window then
select INTERNET OPTIONS.

On the General tab under browsing history, click DELETE button. On the
Delete Browsing History window, click the DELETE FILES, DELETE COOKIES and
DELETE HISTORY tabs or click DELETE ALL button to delete all browsing
history. Click Yes, then click CLOSE.

Click the PROGRAMS tab. Click the MAKE DEFAULT button, then click YES. Click
OK.

Then Click the Security tab, and then click Custom Level to open the
Security Settings dialog box.
Make sure the custom settings are set to Medium. Click the Reset button.
Click Yes to confirm the change.

Then select the Advanced tab. Click RESTORE ADVANCED SETTINGS button. Then
click the RESET button at the bottom part under Reset Internet explorer
SETTINGS. Then click RESET.

Next, select the Connection tab and click on the LAN Settings button and
make sure that nothing is checked, then click Ok, then Ok again.

Once done, please restart your computer in order for the changes to take
effect on your system then sign back on.

I did those steps on 6-8-10, but the message reappeared on 6-10-10. Now, it
may be a fluke, but I wanted to respond to the status of what has occurred.

Sorry, my previous response should be to Gene or Nil.

Get rid of that X and try again. That is my original advice and I'm
sticking to it...

I saw your name correction...thanks for noticing and fixing it :-)

Gene –

This is what I did. First, I need to say that the message has only appeared
once since I made the changes suggested by my ISP. So, perhaps that
correction might have helped. Anyway, I tried your suggestion and changed
the X to its other option which was a checkmark. The checkmark seem to tell
me the offline option was active. In fact, I did get a message saying I was
working offline after making the change. Anyway, after changing to the
checkmark, I tried to sign in to my ISP and immediately got the message. I
then changed back to the X and performed the same steps and the message did
not appear.

I am thinking perhaps my browser changes may have worked and the one time I
got the message may have been a fluke.

Thanks,
Jerry

Looks like I misunderstood. I thought the X meant selected. Sorry to have
misled you.

Still, I wonder about that X. Usually an unselected option is blank...

Not to mention that I have IE 8 here (no surprise) and the Work Offline in
my browser is not where you described it in another post in this thread,
and it doesn't look like your description in this post. Mine is in the File
menu, and I can't find Work Offline anywhere under Tools...

Gene (or is it Jill)
Note: that's a joke based on a friend of mine who is known as both Dick and
Richard, and often signs his e-mails "Dick (or is it Richard)" and vice
versa. I am amused, and not in the least bothered, by the Jill thing :-)

Gene –
I too use IE8. But to make things confusing, I cannot find a Files icon at
the top of my IE8 screen. My Tools menu appears in the upper right corner.
Anyway, thanks for your thoughts. Everything seems to be working Ok now.

Press and release the Alt key and the menu bar will appear. It will go away
after you use it, but as you can see, it's easy to get it back. Some other
programs do this too.

You can also configure IE8 (and some other programs) to keep the menu bar
permanently visible.
