Are you using a microphone?

Right click on the Speaker icon in the Notification Area of the Taskbar and
select Recording Devices. Right click in an empty area of the window and select
both "Show Disconnected Devices" and "Show Disabled Devices". Select Microphone
and press the Set Default button. Use the Properties button to set up your
microphone.

When you speak, in Recording Devices, does the green bar on the left of the
microphone move up and down?

Sorry you are still having problems.

I don't remember, but this is a USB headset, right? Are there Vista drivers for
it? Have you checked the manufacturer's forums or FAQs? I don't use a headset,
but are there separate entries in Playback Devices or Recording Devices for the
headset? Does Device Manager show any errors for the headset?

Only ONE jack? Not separate jacks for the earphones and the mic? My computer
has separate jacks for earphones and a mic. I think that is your problem. The
earphone jack only provides audio out.

**one million thanks cal bear 66**.yes i just noticed also that i have
seperate mic and headphone jacks on the front of the computer(dell dimension
e520).
i found a few stand alone mics tried those and one is ok,when i speak
they hear me and i hear their voice throught the computer speakers.
when i had my first computer(a tiny) i exchanged the speakers to this
computer(dell dimension e520).
the speakers has its own volume control with a 3.5mm jack, when i
plugged the headphones with mic (headphones has two jacks a black one for
headphones and a pink one for mic) in the tiny i could make a call with
those, with me hearing the person throught the headphones but with this
computer(dell dimension e520) it does work with the speaker volume built in
jack.
when i try the headphones with mic, in the mic socket of this
computer(dell dimension e520) i can hear the other person again throught the
computer speakers
and NOT THROUGHT THE HEADPHONES themselfs.
is there a way of making a private call on vista,ie i plug in the headphones
and i can hear them on the HEADPHONES themselfs,(although there's no rush for
this as yet).all help appreciated, cal bear 66, 5stars out of 5.
many thanks.paul.

i've just thought of something,**cal bear 66**, if i use the two jacks for
the headphones together,i might be able to make a private call.is this true.
( i tried a few variations, i think my mic on my headphones are faulty?.
many thanks.
paul.
