I had a sweet system that was just perfect for gaming. I even poste
several articles here on how to optimize it for gaming and now afte
doing a clean install I have been inundated with errors that I never
ever got. The following are the problems I see

1. Explorer 7.x crashes the minute I type anything in the Search or UR
ba
2. wuauserv (Update) errors
3. Several apps crashing for no reason (theres a reason, but I mea
....geez
4. Windows Aero switching back to basic for no reaso
5. In-ability to install or upgrade existing programs.
6. Service this, service that stopping (Defender and others
7. Incomplete KB947821 upgrade install (crashes wit
svchost.exe_wuauserv - Module: Stackhash_2257) - Update Readiness Tool

I know others have some of these problems and wondered if they have an
fixes that I do not know about.

This is just after the usual 6 month fresh install. Other than FS
(which didnt install correctly), I have just drivers, nHancer and th
latest nVidia system tools (Ntune).

This is the third time I re-installed from scratch. I figured I had
hardware problem only because I never had this many errors upon a fres
install. Yeah right......

Can SOMEONE IDENTIFY the offending culprit(s) to this rather larg
problem? Is it a problem when someone initially uses Windows Update th
first time? Or is it another problem

The last install was from my retail box of Vista Ultimate 64 (w/o SP1
and then applied SP1 afterwords. The first two re-installs were from
slipstreamed disc.

Sometimes files get corrupted during copying.
From the sound of it, you haven't done much since the install.
I would wipe it (again) and try again.

I have never done '6 month fresh installs'. I have never seen a reason to.
I have installs of XP running that started with the download from BETA
testing.
They still run well, why wipe and start over when there is no problem to
correct.

Did you update everything when you reinstalled? Some applications
require different versions of .NET. Nhancer for one. I would try a
fresh install with only the drivers and the necessary Microsoft
updates, see what happens when you do a few restarts after that. If
the system is stable try installing your utilities, ie. Nhancer, with
the necessary microsoft products and see what happens. BTW, Nhancer
requires .NET 2.0 and there is a service pack for that version.
My experience with third party utilities that need to rewrite registry
entries and system files would lead me to believe that Nhancer might
be the problem. Even though the developers say it is compatible with
Vista there may be a specific order that it and the appropriate
version of .NET need to be installed. And that could be complicated by
the numerous Windows Updates as some of those will screw up other
apps.I am always wary of these types of programs.
