WGA bypass, and what not

I was wondering why MS is making everyone use WGA to keep
illigal Windows OSes from getting updates, but make it to where it is
easily turned off, and bypassed? Then downloads of updates are
obtained as normal. Also, if you can just turn off WGA from within IE
without scripts, and hacks, then why is there still scripts being
posted to get by WGA? Does disabling the WGA add-on not let you get
certain updates?

If you bypass WGA, Windows Update will offer only critical security updates.

....which, for the most part, is all the end user needs. The
end user does not need to be put into the position of being
a beta tester for Windows updates or upgrades that is not
needed. And if so needed, the end user can always visit the
Microsoft download center for it. At the very least, the end
user is an active (versus passive) participating at making a
modification to the version of Windows installed in the unit.
And similarly, the end user should be visiting and downloading
from the original sources for updated peripheral drivers that
are probably more current than being distributed through MS.
WGA is a waste and in counting the number of complaints that
have been voiced, perhaps even a nuisance.

There is *NO* advantage to this at all.

And Longhorn/Microsoft Vista with the upcoming DRM features it's going to be a nightmare. I wonder
if Microsoft is going to disable anything DRM related for Corporate customers like it did with the
infamous Microsoft Activation thing that already limited users right to change hardware as much as
they want without having to notify Microsoft servers at all.

I agree, there is no advantage to anyone, including MS. This is the biggest
PR folly MS has ever done. Meanwhile, the real thieves could care less.
