WGA Installed But fails for Microsoft Update

This is a strange one, WGA ActiveX control tool is installed and has allowed
me to download MS defender (to scan a computer for spy/malware which there
was some that it removed), then however when trying to use Microsoft Update
it tries to run install but then fails install. Is MS using two different WGA
ActiveX control tools? Why would it say that the OCX.dll file failed tio
install for WGA?
I then went back to WGA site it runs fine there.
Any Ideas?
