As you might already know Microsoft launched the Windows Genuine Advantage
(WGA)validation Tool a few days ago. I never had a problem running Windows
Update until the day windows update downloaded the WGA tool.

Now every time i run windows update a link takes me to Microsoft Update
(v.6) as if I were using windows XP and not 2K it ask me to decide whether
to run the Express Updater or the Custom one. Either way everytime I run
win update it tells me that WGA could not be installed.

I bought this Dell PC with a pre-intslled Win 2K version.

I would strongly appreciate your help on this issue since I have not been
able to run Windows Update since then.

Thanks

Try to download and install WGW Tool manually.

1. Download the ActiveX cab file from the following link;

http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?linkid=39204

2. Extract the 3 files namely LEGITCHECKCONTROL.DLL, GWFSPIDGEN.DLL and
LEGITCHECKCONTROL.INF
3. Copy the files LEGITCHECKCONTROL.DLL and GWFSPIDGEN.DLL into
c:\windows\system32.
4. Register LEGITCHECKCONTROL.DLL using the REGSVR32 LEGITCHECKCONTROL.DLL
command.

5. Copy the LEGITCHECKCONTROL.INF file into the c:\windows\inf folder and
then right click it to say Install.
6. Restart and try Validation
