Windows Update is reporting that I need to update the Windows Genuine
Advantage Notification Tool with KB892130 (via the Windows Update Website)
and/or KB905474 (via the "!" icon on the Windows Toolbar).

However, I have previously installed KB892130 - on 28th February 2006 and
KB905474 on the 25th April 2006. I have verified these dates with my Windows
Update history.

I have a Validated and Genuine version of Windows XP SP2.

Because of this problem I am locked out of getting any Windows critical
updates until I install these updates.

WHY IS WINDOWS UPDATE NOTIFYING ME THAT I HAVE TO INSTALL THESE UPDATES WHEN
I ALREADY HAVE THEM INSTALLED !!!!

Many people around the world are having problems with the WGA tool updates
as reported on these forums.

Please, Please Please can Microsoft get their finger out and solve these
problems !!!

Notifications has to mutate in an attempt to adapt to hacks and cracks.
What this means is that, unless you select to ignore it and live with a
big fat notice that you have selected to hide Important updates when
you update, you will be presented with permutations as it evolves.

Because these are revised versions of the software. The KB numbers do not
change when revised versions are issued. This is likely to happen several
more times before the software reaches a settled state.

There will be a new one next Tuesday that changes the calling home
feature from every reboot to every two weeks. When it's deployed world
wide, it won't phone home at all.

From
http://www.informationweek.com/inter...leID=188703441

"The company plans to change the settings of the application in its next
release, so that it dials in to Microsoft every two weeks, the
spokeswoman said. The call-in feature would be disabled permanently when
the program is generally available worldwide later this year."

Apparently MS has decided in favor of full disclosure and has listened
to people like me who are disgusted with this spyware.

OK, I understand. BUT loads of users are having problems with these updates.
What guarantees can you give me that when I try to install these updates:

1) They will install properly,( many users report installation problems ) !
2) They won't screw up my windows installation so that I have to re-install
XP !
3) I will be able to receive critical updates.

Also, (this has been mentioned many times on the forums) you stated that the
"software" has not reached a "settled state". What does this mean ? OK, all
software will have bugs in it, those known about at the time of release, and
those yet to be discovered. Where can I find a list of the currently known
problems with this software ? And have suitable workaround solutions been
declared ?

As a customer, I would expect any released product (even revision such as
these) to state its version, its purpose and list any outstanding issues, are
there release notes for WGA and the related KBxxxxx revisions taking into
account the main issues raised on the forums with associated work arounds ?

Nobody here can give you any guarantees.

Ok
I'm not a geek. Can you tell me in layman terms?

Seemed like layman terms to me. This is a discussion group.
It is composed of users interested in Windows Update. If you
demand of me that I change the way WU works, that is as absurd
as my demanding that you alter the way of updates somehow.

On the other hand, if you can, please give me some guarantees.

If you are referring to update 905474, then download and install directly:
