I could not find this fix inthe posts, so I thought I would share.
First, let me point out that I respect what MS is trying to do, address
piracy. However, when we become frustrated by the hoops and are then told we
have to work with the computer manufacturer to address the software issue,
well, it is irritating. The manufacturere wil tell you to reinstall. That is
a bit drastic.
This worked for me, when I had several different VALID XP Pro systems which
failed to validate and the online suggestion failed to help.
When Validation fails, disable the WGA plug in via Internet Options/Manage
Add Ons. Refresh IE and run Win Update. --You may need to reset your web
settings and turn off the firewall--
You should now be able to get the updates. You will get a balloon messag
eonthe disabled plug-in. Just ignore it. Once you have all of the updates
re-enable the plug-in and refresh IE. You will be prompted to validate and it
will work correctly.
I hope this helps!
