WGA validation failed

Hello
Win XP home
When I go to download updates it says I need to install WGA validation tool.
I click to install.
Installation failed. I look at my history of updates and it has already been
installed back in February and has a green tick. I do have one failed install
for security update 920213 error message 0x8024200D. I can't seem to find it
manually. Don't know if this security update is the problem or could it be
the fact that I used a utility to remove the WGA tool as it was causing my
welcome screen to hang.
Don't know how to fix.
Thanks
Ford.

Same here...everything's been fine until today. Now I get the following
message upon connecting to the updat site:
"Software Upgrade for Some Windows Components Required"
....so I click on "download and install now", I get a long wait, then get
this error:
"Some updates were not installed" and it lists the 1 update:
"Windows Genuine Advantage Validation Tool (KB892130)"

I even tried downloading and running the MGADiag.exe tool, but that didn't
help either.

Also, I just installed WinXP SP3 manually (on an up-to-date WinXP Pro SP2
box), which installed just fine, but I still get the above errors and can no
longer obtain updates.

What gives?

You cannot install some updates or programs
["When you examine the %systemroot%\Windowsupdate.log file, you may see an
entry for one of the following errors: ...0x8007f0da"]
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/822798

Upgrading, especially a installing Service Pack, in an attempt to address
ongoing problems is seldom, if ever, a good idea, Lloyd.

Error Code 0x8024200D is:
SUS_E_UH_NEEDANOTHERDOWNLOAD
The installer requires more data to be downloaded

Manually download and install the update:

http://catalog.update.microsoft.com/...spx?q=kb920213

Of course I didn't install SP3 just to fix this issue...I needed to install
it anyway. If I install something just to fix 1 issue, that's what hotfixes
are for.

I already looked in the log file, btw, and there are no entries with that or
any other error code besides std access violations, 0x80000005. Odd, because
I log in as local admin when installing updates, no reason I should be
getting any 05 codes at all, especially since I haven't installed anything
since the 1 update earlier the same morning.

Seems like WGA shot itself in the head, grr.

Absent anything else in previous posts from you, it was a supposition my
part. That being said, were you experiencing the problem before you install
SP3?

From where did you download SP3? It's not available at Windows Update or
the Download Center yet.

/You/ referenced the 0x8007F0DA error, not me. That being said, have you
tried the various fixes (Methods) listed in KB822798 yet?

Which update, SP3?
