Can someone explain what this big deal about "separation" of IE from
Windows?
I don't get why it's such a big deal and all. It seems like Netscape
Era 2.0...but there is no Netscape!

What's wrong with IE shipping with Windows? I mean I understand that
back in the hay-day, Netscape was claiming MS was using "unethical"
practices to push them out of the picture. But what's the deal now?

Nothing's WRONG with IE shipping with Windows per se. The problem is,
that in XP and Vista you cannot REMOVE it....
Yes you can install another browser, but unless you use IETab for
Firefox, then you HAVE to use IE for Windows Updates...

Hey, does IETab include support for ActiveX then? Have you tried it for
Windows Update?

If it works I could use it to access my Win2008 RemoteApps page from
cyber-cafes and corporate networks, etc, that always block the installion of
ActiveX addons, by using this instead if IE:

Well, XP would be considered a legacy system now so forget about that.
If they really want, maybe they can SP4 it

In Vista you don't have to use IE to do a Windows Update. At least
never did

Microsoft Update does not work through IE. If you attempt to run Update
in IE it jumps to the Windows Update as in the Start menu. How does
yours function ?

Microsoft is large, successful and American so the EU (French) don't
like it.
I think the latest EU complaint about IE is ridiculous but no doubt MS
will compromise.

LOL! IE killed Netscape by bundling IE with Windows. Google, Opera and
Mozilla don't like it and the EU concurred. The fact that Windows 7 lets
you remove Internet Exploder is a good thing and with a simple flash
drive, one can download FF, Opera or Chrome and install it no problem.

And you never will, completely. W7 will allow IE8 to be "removed"; that is,
it won't be available to the user.

BUT - most of the underlying files will have to remain in the OS. Why?
Because they provide a published API which lots of third party applications
use to provide basic web browser functionality. You may have used
applications which take you to an update page on the web, but from inside
the application itself. Also, some "competitors" to Internet Explorer (not
the big names, obviously) use the IE engine but with a different user
interface wrapped around it.

I once wrote my own web browser in Delphi (my favourite programming
language), and it is remarkably quick and easy to do. But it uses IE's
..dlls, too.

Completely removing all the .dlls that IE uses would cause chaos, breaking
some or many of your favourite applications, and it just ain't gonna happen.

False. It was dead when AOL stupidly bought it. Now AOL did kill ICQ.

False.

False.

Figures.

"Real Men"? LOL! Are you a Macho Man?

Shame that MS has to continue to intertwine IE with the OS and thereby
merit the moniker, Internet Exploder.
