1) What's the difference between Microsoft Update and Windows Update?

2) From a developer's standpoint, how can one learn how MU/WU determines
which updates are available? What exactly on the user's PC is the Update
Agent looking at to determine whether a new update is necessary?

Thanks.

I would presume the inner workings of the update process is highly protected
information, NV. Obviously WU/MU examines the machine for what's already
installed and then tailors the package of updates based on that information.
/How/ it does that is Microsoft's secret. <w>

If you're that interested in the process, see if you can partcipate in one
of the private betas MS runs prior to introducing a new update engine like
V6 or MU. Contact your local MS office for info.
