Windows Calender works fine if you start up your Windows fresh every day, but
does not remind you if you put your computer to sleep, when you start up
windows from a sleep the calender does not remind you at all.

How can I make it remind me after the machine has been started up from a
sleep mode

You will need to look to another explanation other than sleep mode. My
machine goes into sleep mode and reminders from Windows Calendar are still
delivered to me when expected.

It's to do with the way Windows Calendar schedules alerts. I too only get
reminders when I start Windows, or when I open Windows calendar. Not found a
fix as of yet.

Do you have a default reminder period set or do you explicitly set reminder
times?

My guess is that the reminder defaults of Windows Calendar in Task Scheduler
were changed or are not configured properly.

Create an appointment with a reminder and examine the task in Task Scheduler
to see if its properties are set properly.
