what's up with V5 windows update

I have windows xp home and SP1a and 4 hot fixes for SP2 in add/Remove and
haven't been prompted to download XP SP2 yet.(That I am aware of) When I go
to windows updates new page it loads and then stops at the "checking for
windows update software" and then freezes up, it won't show the update list
on the right.

Hey, I have the same problem. It never goes past the "Checking for the latest
version of the Windows Update software..." message and I cannot access the
"View Installation history" nor "Restore hidden updates" on the left hand
menu.

I have the same problem with Windows update and MS Office Update. Anyone
please HELP!!

From the log, this looks like WU client dlls are not registered
correctly during setup. Please try following workaround:
* close WindowsUpdate site
* net stop wuauserv
* regsvr32 wups.dll
* regsvr32 wuapi.dll
* regsvr32 wuaueng.dll
* net start wuauserv
* open WindowsUpdate site and try again
