Which one do you wish to be your default? (It's normal to see shortcuts to
both in your Start menu.)

Robear;
But both lead to Microsoft Update after it is installed..
The only purpose in keeping both is if you later decide to go back to
Windows Update.
I know I will not go back do I delete the Windows Update link.

ok, so why do neither of them work for me and a bunch of others here on the
newsgroup?! when clicking on the Express or Custom buttons only seems to
lead us down the path of it going back and forth and doing nothing else.
any help would be appreciated.

You and I know this but I was trying to ascertain what Tom's question was
really all about.

As Jupiter points out, both shortcuts will lead to your default choice. Are
you unable to reach your default choice?

Best to post only in your own thread, Guppy.

How to troubleshoot Windows Update, Microsoft Update, and Windows Server
Update Services installation issues:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=906602

1. See the "Need more help? Tell us what problem you are having" section of
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=ph;en-us;6527

2. You cannot install some updates or programs
http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;822798

3a. Check Windowsupdate.log (%windir%\Windowsupdate.log) for errors
associated with the download/install.

How to read the Windowsupdate.log file:
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=902093

3b. Compare errors to those listed here:
http://inetexplorer.mvps.org/archive...date_codes.htm and/or go to
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com > click on Help and Support link in left
pane > Solve problems on your own.

4. Windows Update Checklist:

PA Bear

thank you for the links. I did post in my own thread by the way and never
got any replies except for others having trouble. So that is why I posted
here. will check out what the links have to say.

Thank you.
