Where's Microsoft Update?

From the Security and Updates link on the main www.microsoft.com web page,
you are offered links to Security Home, Microsoft Update, Office Update, and
so on. The link for Microsoft Update used to go to a page which would then
actually check for updates - now it takes you to "Microsoft Update
Catalogue". It does not search for required updates here. What gives? Is the
link wrong?

BTW, if you want to run Microsoft Update, go instead to Office updates and
click the Check for Microsoft Updates button. The correct page will then
open and it will search for updates.

If I right-click on the Windows XP Start menu and look at the properties for
Windows Update, it shows: %SystemRoot%\system32\wupdmgr.exe.

When I do click on the Windows Update icon I'm taken to
http://www.update.microsoft.com/wind....aspx?ln=en-us where
it does offer to scan my computer for needed updates.

But frankly, I have no idea anymore what's been going on with
Windows/Microsoft Updates since June.

And no one is talking.

Yes,the Microsoft Update link there is set to Microsoft Update Catalog
by error. That's "only" true for the English version of the MS homepage
BTW.

Ehm, have a look into the Tools menu of IE and choosing Windows Update
from there will direct to Windows/Microsoft Update as typing a simple
http://windowsupdate.microsoft.com into the address bar will also.

Hi Freudi,

As suggested in your other post, I DID get to the usual Windows Update site
by clicking on Tools | Windows Update in Internet Explorer.

I suppose now I'm wondering why it's taking Microsoft so long to correct the
false linking.

I'm too, Alan, I'm too. I've contacted MS on various ways in the meantime.
If some MVPs would do the same, it may be corrected a little bit faster.

It's fixed now, the link on the US Microsoft homepage links to Microsoft
Update again :-)

Bye,
Freudi
