if you already have the computer you should run the vista upgrade advisor.
it is not a guarantee, but a starting point.
going with 64 bit you will need to verify that there are 64 bit drivers for all your hardware. and any programs that you use are also 64 bit versions. 32 bit versions might still run, but 64 bit ones would be better.

I have been happy to plod along with XP but after me dad got a new PC with
