using xp pro at work, & xp home at home. dell machines. after doing updates
of 4-11-06, i cannot save web page in I.E.. if i do a system restore, (i did
that on both machines) i was able to save web pages. i checked 3 other work
machines, dell xp pro's, all have the 4-11-06 updates installed. 2 can save
web pages, & 1 cannot.

has anyone experienced not being able to save web pages?

does anyone know what update ( 912812, 911567, 908531, 911562) causes this
problem?

thank you, len kiesling

This is due to a clash with some HP software - have a look at:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/918165

for the fix.

Cheers.

thank you for reply!! i wasn't sure if that was the cause. only a few posts
indicated problems saving web pages. i didn't know saving pages was affected
by this update, until i tried it, after reading posts.
after doing sys restore to prior update install, i was able to save web
pages again. i rarely save web pages, but i do want all options to work.

has anyone experienced this without hp software on machine?

thank you, len kiesling

Len, have you tried this?...

HP's Share-to-Web software - Fix (Line 383, Right)
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_tweaks.htm

To use: Download the .vbs file and save it to your hard drive (you may want
to right click and use Save Target As). Double-click the vbs file. You will
be prompted when the script is done.

thanks pa, that's next! i'm away from work machine, but should be there
tomorrow.

at that time i'll apply kelly's fix & see if web pages save.

then i'll report back my findings. machine in question has hp software, not
sure if save to web is on it, & recent micro updates.

any thoughts (opinions) as to whether or not microsoft will change/revise
908531?

thank you! len kiesling the lenmeister

Nope, the problem seems to be outdated software (HP Share-To-Web)
and/or drivers (Nvidia) possibly assited by brainless Personal
Firewall software.

> remove it and turn off auto downloads and you shold be ok

And the security hole to be fixed with KB908531 is open again.
As you may have noticed in the past, as soon as updates are
released and security holes beeing published, the exploits of
that hole are coming more and more quickly. So I urge you to
reinstall KB908531 ASAP and see, if the poublated "fixes" for
the quirks you may have ran into help.

Bye,
Freudi

Yes, reinstall both, KB912812 & KB917425 and try to save a web page
*after you've uninstalled KB911567*. You're using the MHT file format,
aren't you?
