Which updates r essential? Have slow dial up+ 36! Critical Updates

I can rarely connect my laptop to the net. Now i can and have run Update for
the 1st time it comes up with 36! critical updates and 9 other. I have a slow
connection and it takes me 1h to download 3Mb and some of the updates r
larger than that alone.
Does anybody know which updates r most important 4 internet security and
intrusions? There r over 25 named Security Update. Don't later ones override
previous updates?

Details: I use Windows2000Pro ServicePack4, InternetExplorer version
5.50.4522.1800IS

See if you can a Windows Security Update CD. MS gave them
away a year or so ago, they will update all versions of
Windows to the date of the CD issue.

since it was hoped to be used. It would update most of your
