Greetings Ame,
Assuming you're using Windows XP, there are a number of things necessary for the Whiteboard
to work in Windows Live Messenger (which is the latest version of MSN Messenger).
Firstly, you'll need an up-to-date Windows Messenger (not Live) installed, although it does
sound like you do given the error. If you want to completely make sure, you can go ahead and
install it from here:

Secondly, it's possible the registry entries for this feature have been removed or changed
somehow. To fix this, download and run this .reg file:

You'll need to restart Windows Live Messenger to see the change.
As a final note, your contact must also be using Windows XP for this to work. If they're
using Vista (or Windows 7 beta), you'll both have to use Office SharedView in order to get a
whiteboarding feature and use that instead of Messenger's whiteboard. You both can grab that
for free at
www.sharedview.com. Also, if you continue to have problems, you could use
SharedView as a workaround as it actually works better than the existing whiteboard feature.
