Why after SP-1 is it telling me I have to register my copy of Vist

I already registered Vista when I got it directly from Microsoft as part of
the WFP and there has been no change to the hardware, so why is it telling me
there is? I tried to register it again and it's telling me that the product
key is already in use. I tried to chat with an agent, but their chatware
sucks. I send two messages, which they receive then it dies. Twice I tried.

You are prompted to activate Windows Vista after you install Windows Vista Service Pack 1
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/947519/en-us

You can reset your Windows Vista activation by performing the following:

1. Click on the Start button and in the Start Search box type in: slui.exe 4

2. Press the Enter key on your keyboard.

3. Select your Country.

4. Follow the instructions for phone activation.

5. Once completed, restart your computer.

Because MS wants to be everybodies' mommy, and to tell us all what to do.

Did you think MS's anti-consumer DRM crapware was gonna be bug free?

Take the phone option, but be prepared to call more than once. MS's PA
phone reps have the annoying tendency of hanging up on people having PA
problems.

MS does as it can get away with in order to sucker paying customers into
needlessly buying the same software over again. That's what PA/WGA is
all about. It has absolutely nothing to do with piracy.

PA/WGA is just another way to con more money out of you proven suckers
that actually buy MS software.

If the OP already activated and didn't change any hardware, why should
he have to activate again and on the phone? Could it be that WPA is
FLAWED and only serves to inconvenience paying customers and does
NOTHING to stop piracy?

This is the worst thing Microsoft could do. I called to re-activate my
already activated copy of Vista Ultimate and found out that Windows may ask
for activation every time you update a driver, even if it is from Windows
Update. So, if Update tells me there is a new driver for my modem, sound
card, video card, etc. and I elect to download it, I will have to call
Microsoft again, read off 9 sets of numbers, then get connected to an agent
because the set of numbers was not recognized, then explain to the agent that
I downloaded a driver and he will give me another set of 9 numbers to type in
just to get it activated again. I'm sorry, but I find that ridiculous. If
you're not ready to deal with this hassle, don't download SP-1

this is not new with SP1. chances are if you haven't had to repeatedly call
to reactivate before SP1 you won't have to after SP1.

Oh and thank you Carey, but I have no slui.exe 4 on my computer and couldn't
find any reference to that to that entry anywhere.

I have installed every beta version of SP1 and I have
installed the final version of SP1 on several computers.
Not once was I ever asked to reactivate Windows Vista
after installing SP1. The issue lies with your particular
computer setup and NOT with SP1.

All versions of Vista have the slui.exe 4 file.
Make sure there is a space between slui.exe
and the number 4.

My computer is exactly the same as it was when I originally installed Vista
Ultimate. I had SP-1 RC-1 Refresh version and was never asked for
re-activation and if you read the bulletin you left me the link for, it
states right there that if you update any drivers you may be asked to
re-activate your copy of Vista. So if you haven't had to do it, you are
lucky, but I want MY computer to be up to date and I don't want to have to
re-activate when Microsoft Update is telling me there is a new driver
available.
