Why cannot sign into email Inbox from newest Windows Live Messenge

I've just installed the latest Windows Live Messenger (build 14.0.8089.726).

I'm now having issues never encountered before:
1) Cannot open the email inbox (Hotmail) upon clicking "Open your email
inbox" from mail icon at top right corner of WLM. That icon does not respond
at all. Then, a pop-up will appear:"The operation failed because the service
is not available. Please try again later."

2) The WLM gets disconnected automatically and tries (unsucessfully) to
reconnect itself. That always fails, and I have to reconnect it manually. It
seems to work Ok in the messenger chat mode.

Kindly provide suggestions to resolve these issues.

The old version of WLM worked well but was forced into updating to this
newest version because the old one was disabled by the system. What a pain.

So, I'm now retrieving my emails from Hotmail at the MSN site.

My OS is Windows XP Home.

Thanks for any suggestions.

When signed in with a Windows Live ID in the 'hotmail.com' domain, WLM pops
up a new tab in Opera 10.00, goes to:

http://login.live.com/

When singed in with a Windows Live ID in a third party domain, WLM pops up
WLMail, and goes to the IMAP account configured for that domain.

A disconnect issue? Are you connecting through a router? Do you have UPnP
enabled on both the router, and in Windows? Which browser have you set up as
your default browser?

What happens when you try to access http://login.live.com/ in your browser?

How many of the Windows Live Essentials have you installed? Who is your ISP?

Works fine, here, on Windows XP MCE 2005; SP3. If I sign in with a Windows
Live ID in the 'hotmail.com' domain, the mail icon opens a tabbed page in my
browser (Opera 10.00), to, http://login.live.com/

If I sign in with a Windows Live ID in a third party domain, the mail icon
opens Windows Live Mail to an IMAP email account configured for that domain.

Loging into hotmail directly through internet explorer is fine, it is just
the issue of not working from the icon on live messenger which should open
the browser
