why can't i????

the automatic update did not allow me me to get windows geniune advanage
validation tool ....why?
also for some ungodly reason i can not change my desktop image lately.
and if i get the new service pack will it over write everything i have ...do
i need to back up files like pic's from my camera?what if there is a virus
that my virus scan did not pick up
