Why can't Vista preview tif files correctly?

This is what I get when trying to preview a .tif file: [IMG]http://
i3.tinypic.com/8eqef05.jpg[/IMG]

Even Picaview can't work with tifs under Vista. Is there a fix?
Working with graphics for print, most of my files are tifs so it would
be a real shame if Vista couldn't handle something I need so
frequently.

When I use my scanner to scan photos I scan them in as tif and have no
issue viewing them. Must be the software you are using that is the issue.

FWIW, Vista previews my .tif files correctly in both Windows Explorer and in
Windows Photo Gallery.
