Why constant reminders about file being modified?

I expect like most PPC users, I sync my key files (like Notes,
Reminders, etc) frequently between my PC and PPC.

My PC text editor (TextPad) has an option 'When files are modified by
another process:'. I've set it to 'Prompt me' (rather than
'Automatically Update' or 'Ignore'). But I can't understand why it
keeps appearing, long after any changes have been made on either PC or
PPC.

I'll email TextPad's author, but can any of the experts here advise if
there's anyway that ActiveSync could be the cause please? It seems to
me that even though AS is regularly syncing, there should be no
change, so no prompt.

Hi Terry,

If you disconnect the PPC and the TextPad prompt stops appearing,
it is definately caused by comparison before syncing.

I suspect ActiveSync to open the file for verification against the PPC
version.
This opening might make TextPad think the file is being modified.
Maybe TextPad has a flaw here.
