Theoretically that could be done, but it gets complicated.
The program would not only have to know if daylight savings was in
effect then (which can vary from year to year) but also where the
computer was located. Did you live in a different time zone or country
then? Were you traveling with your laptop to another time zone or
country?
So for simplicity, the program assumes that whatever time zone and
daylight sayings is currently in effect was also in effect when the
message was sent/received.
If you look at the message source (Ctrl-F3) you can see the Date header
which will show the time including offset from GMT when the message was
written.
