Why does the only user need "permission"?

Dell laptop, Vista Home Premium. I'm the only user since day
one, and a generally delighted user I might add, with far fewer
issues than when I went from 3.1 to 95, or 98 to 2000, as
examples. But there are frustrations, and the matter of
"permission" is high on the list.

I want to perform some ordinary task such as shift some folders
around, and often get a "You must have permission..." alert,
with Try Again as an option.

Sometimes clicking Try Again works, but it usually won't and I
have to abandon the task because I just don't know enough.

What can I do to gain ultimate authority over this laptop? After
all, I bought it - I own it - it's mine. As the only user I *am*
its God!

Maybe you need to do this:

The problem is that when you turn everything off "because YOU own it", it is
very easy for someone else to "own it" along with you - probably without you
even being aware of the fact.

What bothers you is the built in security that makes Vista superior to
Windows XP.

That's poor advice to suggest to a user to disable UAC.
