Why does Update Rollup 1 show up in my Windows Update?

I downloaded and installed Update Rollup 1 for Windows 2000 SP4
recently. I didn't do it through the Windows Update site... I just
manually downloaded the installation file and ran it. Now when I go to
the Windows Update site and it checks for updates that my system needs,
it actually displays Update Rollup 1 as one of things that my computer
needs. Why wasn't it able to detect that I already installed Update
Rollup 1 onto my computer? I looked at my Add/Remove Programs, and it
shows that I have already installed Update Rollup 1.

Your system may need version 2 installed. To verify its status, go to your
%windir% folder and look for a folder named $MSl31Uninstall_KB893803v2$. You'll
have to have hidden folders and files enabled, in Folders Options, to see this
series.

If not found, install the update,

Hi,

Please (re)install MDAC 2.8 SP1, MSXML 3.0 SP7 and MSXML 4.0 SP2 and
see if that helps on the failing detection of KB891861 (Update Rollup 1
for Windows 2000 SP4)...

Download links:

Microsoft Data Access Components (MDAC) 2.8 SP1
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

In the 2 links below, set the correct language for your OS and press
the Go button. Then download and run the msxml3.msi file found at the
bottom of Web page

Microsoft XML Parser (MSXML) 3.0 Service Pack 7 (SP7)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

MSXML 4.0 Service Pack 2
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...DisplayLang=en

Are those just the service packs or the entire components? Microsoft's
naming convention is a little confusing. For example, "Windows 2000
SP4" is obviously not the entire operating system with the SP4 fixes.
However, they have "IE 6 SP1" which is the full IE application with SP1
fixes. So with "MDAC 2.8 SP1", do I have to install MDAC 2.8 first and
then install MDAC 2.8 SP1, or do I only have to install MDAC 2.8 SP1?
Same question for MSXML 3.0 SP7 and MSXML 4.0 SP2. Thanks.

To the other poster, my system does have "version 2" installed.

Hi,

Those three install packages are containing the entire components, so
nothing needs to be installed first...
