Why does Vista do this??

My wife and both have separate profiles on a Windows Vista Basic machine.
Whenever we shut down (put the machine into sleep mode, that is) and then
power back up, if I haven't completely logged off of my profile on that
machine and my wife logs into her profile, I notice that MSN Messenger signs
on and kicks me off wherever I am otherwise...even though I am not logged
into the Vista machine. XP does not do this - if you are not logged into
your account the programs running under XP don't run. At least this doesn't
happen. Why does this happen and is there any way to prevent it from doing
so?

Thanks all for any input.

Your post is a bit hard to follow since part 1 and part 2 don't really match
up. On one hand you're saying that you aren't "completely logged off" but
at the same time you're saying "I am not logged into the Vista machine". So
I don't really see the picture.

As far as Fast User Switching, XP most certainly does do this. If you use
Fast User Switching in either XP or Vista, it means that the programs you
left running in User 1's account are still running when you switch to User
2.

Perhaps you could clarify what is happening and what you want to happen so
as to get more focused help.
