Why does Vista randomly reset my folder view settings?

For no apparent reason, in Windows Vista (Ultimate, but presumably in
the other editions), the view settings I assign to a folder (e.g. List
View with only Size, Type and Date Modified columns) will just reset
to what I assume is the default (e.g. a small folder window with
different columns)!!! This is bugging the crap out of me. I can't
figure this out. I spent a lot of time going back and re-customizing
all my folders because Vista decides to modify them even though I have
all the settings for the folder views set correctly. It's completely
random. Has anyone else had this problem? Is there a fix? Any advice?

Thanks in advance.
