Ive noticed this with Copying large files between drives, up to 1 hr to copy
1.4gb from C: to D:

Even worse than this is copying and pasting from a ZIP file, can take 15-20
mins from a Zip file that extracted, is barely larger than 2mb! I defaulted
all zip's to Winrar and its hardly much better

Im running Vista Ultimare on a Dual Core 3.0ghz with 1.5gb of Ram. Is there
a cure? (apart from re-install XP)

Ooh and further to this

if I copy a file using command prompt.

why does it use 64mb of system memory to do so?

I've also noticed some very odd behaviour copying files from one PC to
another. Even though the 2 PC's are connected via a fast ethernet
switch and both report they are connected at 100Mb, the max transfer
Vista reckons is around 9.5Mb??

cheers,
Len

don't you wait for any truth explanation... people arround here are extreme
ocupied on showing that Vista a the best OS ever, so you got to be a member
of an colective alucination or there are a lot of broken HDs out there...

there are problems with copying and deleting files in vista, but you are not
allowed to talk about that, and we are not allowed to read it...

so sorry i can't help you, i myself spent 4 hours looking at vista copying
16Gb of files to a external usb drive... but i don't wanna talk about it.

best regards

-if you are copying from one partition to the other on the same physical
drive, it will be slower than copying to a separate physical drive, but
it should definitely not take 1 hr to copy 1.4 GB, so something is
wrong.

-Run disk diagnostics with the software from your HDD manufacturer

-Run chkdsk/f

-run antivirus/malware scans to ensure your system is clean

-check if your HDD has reverted to PIO mode..in case of repeated CRC or
other errors, windows defaults HDDS from UDMA to PIO mode.

-Defrag your drives. If your files are fragmented, it will increase
copy/read/write times. A nicely defragmented drive will work much
better overall for everything.

Vista is still using the old NT kernel. So what do you expect from
MickeyMouse? Innovation? If they can't purchase it, they can't get it.

Cheers.
