I feel your pain. Try to stay positive. There are some alternatives but
unfortunately they are not mainstream. Ever try OS2? What a laugh -
sustainable it was not. (IBM spent millions on advertising hype - even
putting on a huge ad at a superbowl game) One of these days you will laugh
at all the frustration. My loudest Microsoft guffaw was clicking 'Help' to
find networking troubleshooting hints for my Peer2Peer wired PCs- I forget
which MS OS - & reading "Ask your network administrator." That's what Bill
Gates calls "innovation?" Haw! Haw!

Today, I've re-installed Vista about 4 freakin times from scratch. Every
time, I have setup my network (not installing any drivers) and download
these two apps: VMWARE Workstation 6.5.0 (full version, not pirated,
etc), and Alchohol 52%. Every time I install Alcohol 52% and restarted
my computer, it would always go into an endless loop, or give me the
Blue Screen of Death. On Alchohol's website, it said that it is 100%
Vista compatible. I know that it is, because I've installed it on
Windows 7 and in Windows Vista (vmware install) before. When I install
Ubuntu Linux, however, I get no BSOD's. Alchohol runs perfectly under
WINE (hahaha). Vista sucks. 4 times. Called M$ and they said (in other
words, obviously), that they don't give a crap what runs under vista.
yes, i've right-clicked, run as admin, etc, all vista sh*** that we need
to do to install a program. So, 4 BSOD's in one day. Thanks, M$. Windows
Vista; A life without walls. yeah, right. Thanks for taking my $130
well-earned money. That's just my little rant, true story though

So, as for now.... May the Force be with you, Vista

I will probably get flamed for asking {I know I should not feed the Trolls}:

But why did you not burn the downloads to a CD or DVD disc and not have
to download them each time?

OS/2 was an awesome OS, well ahead of its time technically. It's
still in wide use in embedded applications.

Why should we give up because you can't do something? Vista runs
great for me, better then XP did. If you don't like vista then don't
use it. Play with your Ubuntu Linux.

ROFLMAO.. Just because a site says it's product is 100% compatible,
doesn't mean there isn't problems/issues with it. LOL how long have you
been using computers? You need to contact THEIR tech support and figure
out what is going on. Blaming any OS for a third party software problem
is silly. As far as Wine is concerned, it ISN'T actually Vista, and more
than likely you have it set to emulate XP for that program anyway.(?)
While I have, use, and like Ubuntu, it isn't the answer to everything. I
use it for some things, and different flavors of Windows for other
things. "Best of both worlds" is my usage.

So, here is THEIR reference regarding BSOD's, which means they KNOW it
happens:

(http://support.alcohol-soft.com/en/k...sh++%28bsod%29)

"Blue Screen Crash (bsod)
Q:- After Installing Alcohol i recieve a Blue Screen Crash on my system,
What can the problem be.

A:- Some information concering Blue Screen Crashing can be found here
under Bug Check Code Referance

The information here can be technical and hard to follow if you receive
a blue screen of Death BSOD we suggest that you post or mail us a short
description of your BSOD the circumstances in which it occurred and
include your latest minidump file from C:\windows\minidump.

Our staff can then locate the cause of your BSOD and offer you a
solution ( where possible ) to your problem."

Have you done this? I doubt it...

So, it happens just like any program, otherwise they wouldn't have this
BSOD section. ...And I NEVER read on their site "100% Vista compatible."
They just list Vista as one of the Os's under "System Requirements."
That in it's self is NO 100% guarantee it is Vista compatible. It could
very well be that the program isn't compatible with a component of YOUR
HARDWARE. Who knows, you need to do what they require in order to find
out the cause.

I have had native Linux applications create problems with the Os, so
PLEASE, refrain from, passing Linux off as problem free.. It's NOT!

G'day

I hope you won't mind if I judge by my own experience rather than yours
and continue to run Vista trouble free.

I've only had minor problems which can be fixed by searching here and on the
internet.

I just had to reboot after an idle time of 1525 hours, and I run a lot of
crap, and WinTV, two monitors, etc..

Maybe the problem is between the chair and the keyboard?

Maybe Alcohol 52% isn't compatible what other programs do you have problems
with?

Install all the programs you really need THEN install alcohol if your REALLY
REALLY NEED IT.

Good luck, Rich
