Defender, not really. Live Mail Desktop does have integration with Messenger, so it is
somewhat related.
As any typical Windows Installer application, it checks that Messenger is installed
"correctly" when Messenger is executed from a shortcut created by the installer. One of the
applications probably just changed a registry key or something, it's probably not a big deal.
It's not just Messenger of course -- it is a bit disconcerting when starting some third-party
application and some part of Office decides it needs to reinstall itself...
