Is it possible to keep things on the simple side of life? It is bad enough
that things want to do this automatic upgrade at teh most inconvienient of
times. Also it is said enough that I get appcrashes at teh most inconvienent
of times. Now I can not keep life simple and do controled updates for
software. Why?

Your post looks more like a rant than a question, but if automatic updates
bother you so much, turn it off and do it manually.

You don't have to install the minute the automatic update appears. It lets
you put it off for a variable amount of time or go to services and turn it
off (services.msc in run box) and then when you feel like turn the service
back on.

It's possible to change the automatic update settings. You can choose from:

Download and install updates automatically at a specific time.
Download updates automatically, but let you choose what updates you want.
Notify for updates, but only download and install when you say so.
Never check for updates.

Open Windows Update, and on the left pane, click on "Change settings".

On the other hand, application crashes are usually not caused by the
operating system, but by a bug in the software, and in some cases, a bugged
device driver or faulty hardware.

Judging by your post, I'd say it was because you're a dimwit.

why you bother about something which is unnecessary? Or you make your life
difficult?
simply turn it off, or let it do as you wish!
there is something we all really need get worry, like explorer will take 90%
CPU time, vista bite system ram, etc. those are really worrisome.

Because you haven't set it up to do so.
You can even set fully automatic updates and control them - if you set
the automatic install for Mondays, that gives you a week ( well six
days ) to kick the 'Second Tuesday' updates off at a time to suit you.
The odd out of sequence one might catch you out.

Tom
