Greetings Danica,
Are you using Windows XP? If so, is "the old one" you're referring to marked as Windows
Messenger"? If so, this is a separate product to Live Messenger. Live Messenger should
still be there, look in the Start menu, All Programs, Windows Live, Windows Live Messenger
Beta shortcut.
If it really is missing, there's no harm in re-installing.
