Why is my Office 2000 update failing?

I have Office 2003 Standard Edition and WindowsXP Home installed on my
PC. Normally I only run the standard Windows Update to keep both XP
and Office current, but today just for the heck of it I ran the Office
Update. Interestingly enough, there were 3 security updates for
Office 2000 identified. The only O2K application I still use is
Frontpage2K, so I went ahead and tried to update my software. BUT,
all 3 updates failed, I was given the following as possible reasons:

- Try installation again with a smaller number of updates.

- Do you have enough disk space to install the selected updates?

- I am confused about which Office product CD the Installation Wizard
requires.

- The Installation Wizard could not find the requested file on the CD
I provided.

- Registry cleanup software may have removed registry keys needed to
install updates.

I was able to quickly eliminate the first 4 items as possibilities. As
for the 5th, yes I do run registry cleanup software. The MS Knowledge
Base gives some very convoluted instructions on recovering keys, but
it's more trouble I really feel this is worth. What I did was to go
into Control Panel and run the "Repair" option in the FP2K add/change
panel. But this made no difference. Possibly uninstalling, then
reinstalling FP2K might solve the problem, I don't know.

So I guess my questions are:

- Is it really worth my effort to apply security updates to my old
copy of FP2K?

- If so, how can I get these updates to work?

Since I normally update my MS programs through the Windows Update,
I've posted my questions in the "microsoft.public.windowsupdate" news
group also.
