Why Office 2007 updates for office 2003?

We are running Office 2003 on one computer. The March update downloads from
MS want me to take and install the following Office 2007 patches:

Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB977724)
Date last published: 3/9/2010

Security Update for the 2007 Microsoft Office System (KB978380)
Date last published: 3/9/2010

These are obviously for Office 2007. The information provided with the
update makes no mention of working with or needed by Office 2003. But it
keeps suggesting I install these 2 patches. Why? Should I install them?

I do have MS Live Meeting 2007 installed on his system. Could this be what
causes this question? If so the same question. Should I install?

Thanks for any and all help

Is Office Compatibility Pack (SP1/SP2) and/or PowerPoint Viewer and/or Word
Viewer and/or Excel Viewer installed?

I had the same experience with the same two updates. I do have the office compatibility pack installed so that I can open .docx files. But now that I did the updates, I cannot open .docx files. I get a message, saying "There was an error opening the file." I went to Add/Remove Programs in Control Panel, but these updates aren't shown. I even tried removing the Compatibility Pack and reinstalling it, but to no avail. Any suggestions? Many thanks for your help.

And you would be replying to whom via that clunky third-party forum
interface...?

I'm very sorry for acting so inappropriately. I will do as you suggest.

Great hagel
And in the process non of the questions have been awnsered in any reasanable way
If Office Compatibility Pack (SP1/SP2) and/or PowerPoint Viewer and/or Word Viewer and/or Excel Viewer for MSO2K7 are installed the Auto Updater will recomend MSO2K7 patches from time to time that are nessesary for compatebility. This is irrespective of the version of Office and the OS. So even if running MSO2K on a Win2K PC these patches will appear as an update

Bruce you do not say what OS you are running but in W2K and W2KSVR this update (KB977724)is not shown in Add/Remove Programs, although Belarc and WindowsUpdate.log show it as installed. MS has already released a hotfix KB980210 but it appears to apply to MSO2K7 only and I would be reluctant to use it with other versions of Office. So far I have not found a way to uninstall the patch if it is not listed in ARP. At this piont the only suggestion I can make is to contact MS, as support for security updates is appearently free for home users.
