Why traces of MSN Messenger still?

It has been more than a release and nearly an year that we have moved onto
Windows Live Messenger name, yet the name of MSN Messenger has not been done
away with! Why so?

Even today, WLMe installs in the folder named MSN Messenger, even if MSN
Messenger has not been previously installed.
The filename of messenger executable is msnmsr.exe. The DLL files show MSN
Messenger tags ( the info displayed in tiles view).

Are we to believe the Live branding was only cosmetic? Really
unprofessional!!

Greetings,

Unfortunately for backwards compatibility reasons, the folder where Messenger is stored, its
executable, and registry settings can't have their names changed.

The name change was purely marketing, no matter how it's justified now.

But you could easily uninstall the previous build and install the new
version afresh. Its sad the one of the biggest software corporations in the
world cannot come up with a solution for such a problem.

Hi,

There are third parties with contracts with software that have to work with Messenger. By
changing things like the folder name, you can break their software.

For moving on, you need to leave behind some things. Make the change using a
beta, inform it to the world, let the 3rd parties integrate the change in
their software and then release the final edition. Its nothing difficult to
implement.

Hi,

You tell that to people you have a contract with.

Might work if you're Apple but Microsoft have legal commitments.
